I Wanna Be Like Mike

I know I always give Alex Ford a hard time for his utter dislike of Michael Jordan, arguably the greatest man ever to play the game of basketball. And while I disagree wholeheartedly with Mr. Ford on his choice of basketball legends, at least I have Alex Liollio to back me up. See, I’ve known Liollio is a fan of Jordan for a long time. Long before he met the likes of Alex Ford.

Freshman year at Clemson University was probably pretty typical for a first year college experience at at major state University. Video games on the weekdays (Midnight Halo to be exact), Tiger football on the weekends, four hours of sleep or less, lots of parties, and certainly dorm room pranks just about every other day. As many as there were, (grits in the shoes, frozen boxers, trashcans full of water leaned up against the dorm room doors) it wasn’t a prank that Liollio fell for but a moment of very poor judgment.

See, there was a guy on our floor who used to give $1 haircuts. Pretty basic obviously, but if you wanted a quick trim Trais Yates was the guy to see. I had frequented the Barber of Byrnes several time and been very satisfied with his work. He came highly recommended. Somehow word got around to Liollio, who decided it might be time to cut his hair. Thing was, he didn’t JUST let Yates cut it, but gave THREE of us others access to those beautiful locks. It’s a good thing we were all at Clemson University, because after that day, Scott Hartley, Stuart Day and Dan Barnes were definitely banned from Barber’s college for life.

What you see below is the result of a truly bad decision by Alex Liollio:

As I recall, he shaved his head the very next day. I was pretty dissapointed that more of the world didn’t get to see such a great tribute to MJ, but any guy who can pull off racing stripes, orange hair coloring, and a shaved #23 in the back of his head is definitely a guy I want to associate myself with. Happy Birthday Alex!

The Classic T

They say that clothes don’t make the man.

But if you don’t know these shirts, then you don’t know Liollio.

Many Years Ago

I hope you have the best birthday! I am glad that I got to meet you years ago!! Live it up!

AnnaBell met Alex Liollio; whom she knew as and was introduced as Liollio, his Freshman year at Clemson… (that was before he traded The Tigers and went to NC State.) She met him through a mutual friend and hung out with him peiodically. She doesn’t remember anything specifically funny, just that he was always in a great mood with a gorgeous smile on his face.
